Community Testimonials

“I’ve always wanted to make my own traditional buckskin regalia but had no idea where to start until I had the opportunity to attend EWR’s regalia making workshop. Raven, Chris, and Nokomis were all so helpful and patient in their instructions and assistance, truly making you feel that there is no such thing as a dumb question. Now I have a traditional eastern woodland style one shoulder dress that I made myself, as well as the skills to make regalia for my son and niece!” - Christina Custalow, Nansemond, Saponi, EBCI

“Wingapo / Tawnishi / Greetings, My niece, nephews, and I participated in regalia and moccasin sewing classes. The programs were well organized with materials and volunteers. Chris, Raven, Nokomis, and a couple of skilled and knowledgeable community members assisted attendees with their projects. They are all dedicated to uniting the Indigenous community and cultivating and preserving cultural tradition. They are supporting our youth and providing them with positive and structured events that help them stay connected. Their work makes a difference. I will definitely continue to support their efforts and attend future events. Kenah / Maarsii / Thank you!” - Jennifer Night Bird Miller

“I attended the EWR gourd class some time ago. It was an amazing experience as I was able to meet and develop relationships with new brothers and sisters. Chris, Raven, and Nokomis were great with providing information on the history of gourds and assisting students. Because of this experience, gourd art has become a part of who I am, and it is something I get to share with others.” - Debrah Adams, Upper Mattaponi
